What God Expects from Us

by David Berry

A series of articles discussing the most important commandments

When asked which is the most important commandment, Jesus replies that loving God with all of your heart, soul and mind is the greatest and that the second is love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-39, Mark 12:29-31). That’s all God expects of us. How hard could it be?

As simple as that is we have ended up with a multi-billion dollar multi-national industry of religion to explain and provide clarification for these two simple commandments. We have governments that establish countless laws to make sure that if someone behaves as if they do not love their neighbor we can turn to law enforcement, the courts and politicians for a remedy. It is amazing that such simple ideas are at the center of so much complexity and controversy.

The following articles explore how these most important commandments affect our lives.
